Fynn
Fynn was born for his role within Creative Healing. Like our mission, he embraced the term “broken” lab early on in his days. From the day he joined us at 12 weeks old, he embraced his broken attitude in that he never had to be kenneled, never dug through the garbage for more snacks and spent his time close to home doing Fynn things. Fynn loves to hang out in the office, joining in sessions when asked.
The use of dogs in animal-assisted therapy is based on the evolutionary bond between humans and dogs. Incorporating this with the research that interactions with dogs in a therapeutic setting has powerful effects on mental health. Simply making eye contact with dogs is shown to significantly lower stress hormone levels, reduce stress and anxiety along with a wide range of mental health symptoms.
Animal-assisted therapy can help clients of all ages engage more fully in therapy. It has been shown to reduce symptoms, increase coping ability, motivation and/or self-esteem. Having Fynn in the room may be comforting for clients who may be new to therapy or need a companion as they share their stories. Specifically for children and adolescents, dogs can help improve empathy, increase social function and increase problem solving abilities.
At Creative Healing Mental Health Center, clients can be asked to be accompanied by Fynn into your sessions. Of course if he’s following you and you do not want him in the room, feel free to shut the door, he doesn’t get offended and enjoys his bed.
