LENS Neurofeedback
Gentle support for a nervous system that’s been running on overdrive.
You’ve done “all the things,” and you still feel like you’re white-knuckling your way through life. You’ve been told to “think differently” or “just do more self-care.” You keep trying, but you still feel overwhelmed, reactive or foggy, or you can’t focus. Sometimes you shut down and avoid it all. Even with therapy helping, your nervous system may still feel like it’s waiting for chaos.
LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) offers a different kind of support. Sessions are brief, usually 15 minutes or less, and the experience is gentle and passive. Most people feel little to nothing during a session.
Short on Time but Ready to Move Forward?
LENS sessions take only minutes, so they can fit into a busy life while still helping you work on your symptoms.
How LENS Neurofeedback Works
Your first session. We’ll talk about what has been difficult, what you want to change, your history and the natural supports in your life. Sleep, stress, medications, past head injuries and trauma are all part of the picture, and they help shape how we approach your sessions.
During a session. You sit comfortably while small sensors are placed at specific points on your scalp. You don’t need to do anything: no concentrating and no reliving hard experiences. The sensors read your brainwave (EEG) activity. The LENS software identifies your brain’s dominant frequency and mirrors that information back to the brain as a very low-energy signal. Because your brainwave activity is unique and always changing, the feedback is tailored to your own neurological “fingerprint.” LENS works within the 1 to 42 Hz range.
After a session. What happens next varies. Some people notice feeling calmer, clearer and more resilient. Little things may stay little, and it may be easier to stay present, stay on task and have hard conversations. Shifts may be subtle at first.
Between sessions. Sessions are usually scheduled every 2 to 7 days. Your provider checks in with you along the way, and the two of you work together so you stay an active part of your care.
For many people, the changes last. For progressive or neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s, ongoing sessions are usually needed.
Everyone who starts LENS has their own reasons.
Who Can Benefit from LENS Neurofeedback?
Most often, people come to us because their nervous system feels overwhelmed, like it’s been stuck in overdrive. They may feel stuck between how they want to respond and how they actually respond, or caught between their physical and emotional reactions. Neurofeedback may help build the internal steadiness that makes your coping skills easier to reach.
LENS can be used at any age, from infants as young as 3 months to older adults. Many clients notice a shift early, sometimes after the first session. A course of LENS often runs around 11 sessions, though everyone is different.

How LENS May Help
Sleep
Disrupted sleep can be at the root of many symptoms, including fatigue, hormone imbalances, anxiety, irritability, trouble focusing and lower life satisfaction. Sleep is when your body repairs and heals itself.
If your sleep is disrupted, you may notice irritability, moodiness, restlessness, persistent anxiety, agitation, distractibility, heart palpitations, waking during the night, difficulty breathing or rumination.
LENS may help calm restlessness and racing thoughts so it’s easier to fall asleep, stay asleep and sleep more soundly. For children, it may also help with sleepwalking, bedwetting, sleep talking, teeth grinding and nightmares.
Focus and Memory
LENS may support focus, clarity, memory recall, listening and comprehension, staying present and processing.
ADD/ADHD
There’s beauty and strength in a neurodivergent mind. You see the world differently, in a way we all need it to be seen. LENS works on balancing brainwave activity, which may help with the parts of ADHD that make it harder to show up in your life. Clients often report improved focus, impulse control and emotional regulation.
If your child shows signs of ADHD or anxiety, you may want to explore options before or alongside medication. LENS can be one of those options and can work alongside your child’s medical care.
Brain Fog
LENS may help your mind feel clearer. You may recall conversations more easily, feel less forgetful and be more present. Your brain fog may be constant or come and go. It may follow a traumatic experience, COVID-19 or stress, or have no clear cause. Either way, LENS can help lift the fog so you feel more like yourself.
Hypersensitivities and Meltdowns
Children who feel big emotions and get overwhelmed easily may benefit from LENS. It may help ease hypersensitivity so emotions feel more manageable and days feel less chaotic.
Performance Optimization
Performing at a high level in sports or your career means being sharp and on your game. LENS can support clarity and focus, even without a diagnosis.
LENS has also been used with seizure disorders, autism and cerebral palsy. These conditions involve the nervous system’s ability to self-regulate.
Areas LENS Is Used to Support
- Cognition: sequencing, memory, attention, concentration, clarity and organization
- Mood: anger, sadness and explosiveness
- Motor: coordination, balance, muscle tone from spasticity and tremor
- Motivation: starting tasks, shifting between activities and finishing tasks
- Anxiety: restlessness, rumination, agitation, distractibility, palpitations and sleep interruption
- Reactivity: hyper-reactivity, hypersensitivity and multiple chemical sensitivities
- Pain: brain-generated and vascular pain
- Addictions and dependencies: difficulty identifying emotions and self-soothing, defensiveness and cynicism
- Fatigue: including fatigue from working hard to push through pain or other challenges
- Performance: stronger functioning in any of these areas, with or without a diagnosis
Is LENS Right for Me?
LENS may not be the right fit if you are in an acute mental health crisis, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or having severe symptoms that need urgent attention. LENS is not a replacement for emergency care. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
If you have a seizure disorder, significant neurological concerns, a complex medical condition or recent major medication changes, talk with your doctor about whether this approach fits your needs. LENS can be used alongside your current medical care.
LENS for Animals
LENS neurofeedback can also be used with dogs, cats, goats and horses. Reach out to learn more.
Ready to Feel More Like Yourself?
LENS can be used on its own or alongside therapy. Your brain is naturally built to grow and adapt, and neurofeedback works with that.
